2011 .......... Celtic Chasing .......... 2011 Many of the examples of Celtic art have come down to us in the form of metal objects. Most of these are in gold or bronze and a large percentage have chased designs on them. These workshops are giong to use the wealth of Celtic design as source of inspiration. The workshops will focus on the prepatation of the pitch and the making of the chasing punches prior to actually learning the technique of Chasing. These are two very important aspects of the procedure and pitch, pitch bowls, chasing hammers and steel rod will be supplied, thus enabling each student to go away with a basic set of equipment. Students will first work on a test square, which will introduce them to the punches and their use relating to gaining a good degree of surface relief, while working only from the front of the piece. Designs for Celtic interlace patterns suitable for Chasing will be supplied for the students main project. Many of the examples of Celtic art have come down to us in the form of metal objects.
